They are used in a variety of processes, from the production of different pharmaceuticals to specialty polymers and chemicals, glass lined equipment have found their way into operations of these processes. This super strong glass-lined equipment is known for putting different materials in safe-zones, that are exposed to harsh materials like alkalis, acids, water and other chemicals, from becoming corroded and eventually causing failure within the pressure equipment.

Due to all of these benefits of glass-lined equipment, they are considered to be a type of equipment that can help in giving different materials a particularly long service life, even when they are present in environments where service conditions are difficult and other equipment would quickly become unfit for service.

In addition to being resistant from corrosion, glass lined equipment is also resistant to contamination from dissolved alloys or metals. These materials can easily turn any equipment into damaged metal parts. Apart from all of this, this equipment is able to handle a diverse range of operating conditions and it is also much easier to clean than unlined equipment. What are the benefits of having a rimmed tank (Aqueon ...

Commence rant!

I won't buy rimless again. Every time! And I mean....every...single...lousy...flippin...time I put anything in the tank: my hand, a scraper, a water change tube, my tongs, a stupid little towel to wipe off the edge, condensation from the edge of the screen covering when I move it...I turn around and there's a little drip running down the side. Or I don't see it and sit back down to enjoy my tank and there's a now dried on drip line or two on the glass. And a dried on saltwater drip isn't just a simple wipe off. If it's a heavy maintenance day, I can add another 15 min in getting the glass clean again and you never get it all first time. And those drips just don't stop on the glass, they run down the cabinet to the floor. Luckily Red Sea makes a decent cabinet to clean. I can't imagine having a fine wood cabinet with a rimless tank.

Yeah they look pretty without water in them, got to admit it and it's why I bought it..most are also made with low iron glass (something else I doubt I do again, read on). But after you add the screen top and a big light over the top...less so. I can see my 55 g planted rimmed tank in the living room at same time I view my RSR 170. Planted has rimmed and low profile light. Honestly, I like the planted rimmed better on looks. I can also do some very heavy maintenance in that tank, yeah I might have water on the floor because I always seem to on heavy maintenance days, but no drips down the side.

As far as low iron opinion...I'm running a 48" reef light (I had it and it works) on that cheap tank with thin iron glass but with that light on especially when bluer, it looks no clearer than the reef tank. True, lights off it looks green but lights on, I can't tell the difference.

PS. I knew everything I just said BEFORE I bought my RSR. I'm not the first to say any of the above and I read them and went ahead with rimless anyway. The convenience of the RSR series is something that weighed heavily in my decision (no drilling, no plumbing, just buy a pump, heater and skimmer and your off and running) and it does still look very nice. But overall for me, I wish I had listened to advice and gone with a tank that might have been a bit more involved in setup but less issues in day to day living for years afterwards.
